At Brancaster House Financial Planning, people are always at the heart of the advice. And few people represent that better than Shane Julian; Co-Owner and Managing Director, whose journey into financial planning started earlier than most.

Shane began his career at just 16 years old with Aviva, then known as Norwich Union, working in the pensions department. It was here that he built his technical foundations and developed a deep understanding of how long-term financial planning can shape people’s futures.
Meet Shane Julian; From Pensions Apprentice to Managing Director
But it wasn’t long before he realised he wanted more than just working behind the scenes; he wanted to work directly with people. That decision led him into financial advice, where he could combine technical expertise with meaningful client relationships.
Building a Career at Brancaster House
Shane joined Brancaster House as a young technical analyst and, over the past nine years, has worked his way up to become Co-Owner and Managing Director.
In his early role, Shane worked closely with advisers; researching client plans, analysing financial positions, and making recommendations backed by robust data and clear strategy. He was responsible for producing detailed reports that helped clients understand their options and make informed decisions about their future.
That analytical grounding still underpins his work today; but what truly drives Shane is the human side of financial planning.
Helping Clients Rethink What’s Possible
For Shane, the most rewarding part of the job is sitting down with clients and helping them realise that their future may be closer; and more flexible; than they think.
Many clients arrive assuming they’ll need to work until State Pension age. Shane helps them take a step back and look at the bigger picture; their pensions, savings, investments, and other assets; and how these can be used strategically to support the life they actually want to live.

Shane
"Working with advisors researching clients' plans, making recommendations to advisors on what I think they should with their clients, providing the analysis to back that up, producing reports for those clients. For me, it's sitting down with a client and making them realise that they can actually retire a lot earlier than they originally thought.
"Most clients I see when they first come in the door, they think they've got to retire at state pension age. By going through and helping the client understand what savings they have in pension or in other assets, how they can use those assets to live the life they want to live in retirement".
